Math Workshop

In math, the second graders are finishing up their measuring unit and, are now reading, analyzing, interpreting, and graphing data.

The second graders are visiting “fiction” again as they apply all of the strategies they have learned throughout the year while becoming more and more “mature” readers.”

they are writing opinion pieces about their favorite books. To support their writing, as a mentor text, the students are enjoying discussing the Mercy Watson series written by Chris Van Dusen.

Social Studies Workshop

The students are excited about their final unit in Social Studies! They will be learning about our government and studying important symbols that exist in our country and what they represent.

Look at the pictures - this helps with the meaning of the story.
2.
Slide through the whole word - Sound out each sound.
3.
Skip the hard or tricky words and then go back - Read...Skip...Go back and reread.
4.
Get your mouth ready to make the first sound.
5.
Reread - Ask yourself "Does it look right?" " Does it sound right?" "Does it make sense?" If not STOP and go back!
6.
Spell the word out loud.
7.
Try a different vowel sound.
8.
Think of a rhyming word you do know. "If I know c-a-t is cat, the I know h-a-t must be hat.
