Students learn that we eat five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

Using ink and watercolor, students map the colors and contours of fruits and vegetables like kale, turnips, apples, carrots, beets, and brussels sprouts Through discussing writing about, and tasting fresh produce, students discover a new depth of appreciation for fruits and vegetables. With Close observation, students create still-life drawings that incorporate what they learned about how artist use light to make objects look three-dimensional in their artwork.

Mrs. Goldman , our Reading Recovery Teacher wrote a grant and was able to bring to our school a very special program.

Thank you for participating in STUDIO IN A SCHOOL'S ART & HEALTH LIVING PROGRAM, which integrates visual arts experiences with nutritional instruction.

The curriculum empathizes close observation skills paired with age-appropiate workshops, featuring fruits and vegetables. All participants have the opportunity to create artwork, learn nutritional facts, consider the benefits of healthy eating, and taste the foods they study.

Art & Healthy Living was developed by STUDIO IN A SCHOOL in partnership with Teachers College, Columbia University. This exhibition encourages the community to be part of a growing, healthy-living awareness.
